How much air flow do you loose? I like the left position myself.. Just worried that I might loose air in the summer ... and has anyone thought about the New South 3 gauge pod that replaces the that big center vent.. I was thinking of going that route.. Just seems strange that VW did not put a boost , oil pressure or Oil temp gauge in.. OK so I am old school

Its not just the airflow to consider, its the directionality. Whichever vent you have the gauge installed in essentailly loses the ability to direct the air where you want it. The vent will still blow air, but just straight out and around the gauge. Like I mentioned, if you crank your AC fan, you'll notice more air coming out of the center vents than the window vents. If you're going to sacrifice a vent, which would you rather choose? If you like the placement of the center vent so much that its worth it for you to lose some of its function, then power to you.

Yea that pod has been out for a while now. Unless you are seriously modding the car, or track/autox/hdpe the car you don't really need an oil pressure or oil temp gauge. For a DD, its just overkill... Its up to you, but imo its not really necessary beyond looks. Boost is an important reference tool to diagnose boost leaks, etc.

Basically, your choices for a single gauge pod are:

- Newsouth column pod
- AWE, or OSIR driver's vent pod
- VMR, CiM, etc center vent pod

Not much out there at this point.

I guess the EJ vent pod is under "et cetera"?

I agree that the Dashpod is overkill for most of us though, and there's too much branding on the Eurojet for me to consider it. I'd probably go with an NSP gauge in an AWE pod, but it's nice to see more options like the CIM solution coming to market!

Now, if NSP would just come out with an AFR gauge, I could justify that Dashpod...

Agreed not needed but handy. If your worried about oil temp just dont beat on it until a few minutes after you have been driving. IMO i feel any turbo car should have a factory oil temp gauge, but again not really needed.

I am extremely happy with my setup. Like I said before, when "I" drive, I tend to lean a little to my right for shifting. Because of that, my left arm sits a little higher on the steering wheel, which then blocks the drivers vent. To have a boost gauge there for me, would be totally impractical and useless. As for the center vent issue, I personally don't like the vent blowing directly on me. I guess on the hot summer days, for the first 5 minutes I start up the car, I can use the passenger side vent and direct it towards me to cool down. After that, I really don't care. The cabin will cool down or heat up without the drivers side center vent directing it in a certain direction. It is what it is. Like it or not. IMO, this gauge has the best colormatch backlighting. Not too bright like the EJ gauge as reported in their thread. I've seen NS, VDO etc. gauges and the lighting is close, but not spot on. As said above, I'm glad that another company such as CiM is offering another solution.

Did you just cut the fuse tap shorter? That's what it looked like you did. The fuse taps I had didn't need to be trimmed luckily.

You can block it as stated before but, as stated before, you loose directionality. I see some hot weather here and i feel even at 115 degrees outside,(yes it gets that hot here) the car cools down fairly quickly because of its size. Last week it was in the 40's here and after a couple minutes i had to turn the heat off it was so hot in the cabin. I touched the metal bezel around my gauge and it was burning. Im still not sure im going to block airflow to go through the vent due to how effective the car still gets hot and cold. I dont think i want the hot air going over the gauge even more.

Not trying to be combative just curious. So you never use your right hand ever to drive the car or when cruising in an gear lower your left arm to steer from a different angle or switch hands? As i said before to each their own im just curious. I too dont care about having two vents on me either.

Directional flow is overated. If you have the heat on, I would suggest blocking off the duct. Blocking off the duct would cause the other vents to blow harder too. I would think heat is a different issue than AC when it comes to blowing on the gauge.

No, I do. Of course I have both hands on the wheel, but more times than not the right hand is on the shifter. I would say 80% of the time the right hand is on the shifter. That's just how I drive. I'm gangsta and I lean wit it!:paddle:

Lol no worries. just different driving styles. When i drive my Porsche which is a stick, i still usually have my left hand lower and close to my body. My gf asked the other day why i didnt get my GTi in a stick. Her response after seeing me constantly using the manual mode is " you obviously like stick shifts why didnt you get this in a stick". Aww shes so adorable to notice i think ill keep her

I might do that all together instead of just putting foam insulation under for direction. Yeah im concerned about the heat not the cold on the gauge. Still considering my options given the outside temps i see i doubt 80 degree heat will have much effect, i just have a hard time putting more heat over it than its already seeing with most the air escaping into the dash. That bezel was friggin hot the other night yur!
