My MFD reagin for the average fuel economy doesn't seem right. It is always changing almost as if it were like the immediate fuel economy thing. On all the other cars I have driven with this feature vw/non vw haven't been like this. They measure of the gas/miles so it doesn't change every minute. Instead of showing my consumption for the tank it shows it for my trip then the next trip it goes back to 0. Is this how its supposed to be in the MKV?

Use the buttons on the side of the right stalk to cycle through the different functions of the MFD. You can cycle from Instantaneous MPG, Average MPG, Average Speed, Trip distance, Trip Time, etc.

there was a time when my average got super fucked up and started reading every second like that. I thought I was maybe in the wrong setting but I'm pretty sure I was in the right one. I reset the trip odometer thinking, for some strange reason, that because there were so many miles on the trip, the average was easier to change or some bullshit like that. needless to say, after resetting the trip, cycling through the mfd a bit, and maybe one or two days later, it was fine again.

so there are 2 averages A and B...A is the average of the LAST TRIP you took within a certain time period...and B is the OVERALL AVERAGE of the entire MILEAGE on your CAR unless you reset it.

I have never reseted my B so my overall average is at 26.8mpg for 51,974 miles.

My A one will always resets itself if my car sits for more then a few hours

I think in the manual it states that the A reading will continue unless you stop for more than 2 hours. Then it resets.

I have skimmed through it two or three times for different things. Should of checked it again instead or just searching the forum then asking.

I know, but the average acts almost like the instantaneous just not as erratic.

Simple. You will notice a little 1 in the corner i believe. That is the average for your current trip.

Hit the OK button on your steering wheel, that will now show a little 2 in the corner. This is the average over the life of the car (or at least the last time you reset your computer due to battery disconnect or user reset).

Enjoy.

I don't have a MFD in my rabbit, and I think it's a good thing, because I would not like what I'd be seeing!
