I was going to say, making a thread like this must make you want to puke

Not really, it has been just a lot of fun figuring things out. If you mean the expense, not really, it is the price of a hobby and I have tried to just do them over 5 years and just set aside an amount I could afford each month to do my hobby stuff.

That was supposed to come off as a joke, but I guess it didn't

Either way, nice car OP

Nice man! Good to see another UG GTI built right.

One of these days I'll have to get that K04 + GIAC.

I'd like to at least get a downpipe first one of these days.... just not sure which one is best to deal with smog checks in SoCal since I'm at the end of my 6 year new car smog freedom mark.

There is only one truly legal downpipe and that is a stock one. Keep your stock one on to smog it, then go aftermarket with a cat. I have an aftermarket one with a CAT that should easily pass any sniffer test and throws no codes but it won't pass the visual and there are no CARB approved aftermarket CATS for our motor.

Yes you will probably have to put your stock one back on again every couple of years when smog comes up.

If I put that kind of money in my Jetta, it would run at least 10s and no longer be FWD.

But, it still wouldn't have an interior and there would still be a gaping hole for the sunroof (have to drive without windows or the buffeting gets crazy).
