A month ago I had a "front left turn signal error" appear. So naturally I removed the bulb in question, but it looked to be in good shape. I pulled out the right side bulb to compare which was also in good shape. I put the bulbs back in and tested the blinkers out again and now they both work! I checked the fuse which was also in good shape. About a week goes by and now on my way home from work I get another "front left turn signal error" and before I can pull over I get a "front right turn signal error" as well! I turn the car off and back on again but this time the bulbs still wont work. After getting home I checked the contacts the bulb sits in to make sure there was no corrosion as well as the wires at the socket and everything seems fine. Now this week I have been driving to and from work with some days where one bulb or the other is out or even both. Some days both are on without problem all day. I'm assuming now that it may be a relay but upon doing some research I only came across the Hazard warning switch as being the relay for my indicator bulbs? I don't know if I should replace this now or if I'm just stabbing in the dark at this point.
TLDR:
2009 GTI with Erratic front turn signals. Sometimes both, sometimes one or the other go out and back on. Checked fuse, contacts, bulbs. Is my next step the Hazard warning switch??
