They got off lightly compared to a bunch of other shops here in Colorado tbh

for almost two years, almost no performance shop here would touch a catless vehicle. Pfi and my brother in laws shop were one of the last places that didn’t give a shit. Until now.

The lawyers will go after everybody once the bag is opened. We saw it in the industry I work in. Some lawyers figured out the majority of websites ran by boat dealerships weren't ADA compliant, so they started suing people on behalf of their blind "client". It was a hefty chunk of change we lost paying our own lawyer plus the settlement. It was the dumbest thing ever, as if blind people need to be browsing for boats. We didn't think it was worth the fight, so we paid up, fixed the site, and moved on. You won't win the fight and it's only going to cost more.

Yea, I put client in quotes because we aren't even sure they had a client. When we received the letter we called the law firm asking wtf is this about, and when we told them they're clients name they had no idea who they were talking about. They knew exactly who we were though.

You don't get out much, this is just NORMAL. There is no common sense and there is no satire anymore. The stupidest thing you can think of some idiot out there thinks it's right on.

I don't support the California insanity, but I have a hard time feeling bad for shops that were tuning for catless DPs and installing them. It has always been illegal. Yes, it was not really enforced, but the rules were there. Like speeding on a road that everyone speeds, then getting pulled over one day; it sucks because it feels selective, but the reality is you were breaking the law and now you gotta pay. As far as I'm aware, tuners are still allowed to tune, they just can't defeat emissions channels and install non-compliant components. All the talk about not even being able to put in an intake or cat back is bullshit fear mongering - look at APR, stage 2 tunes and DPs are suddenly gone, but they're happily selling intakes, cat backs and stage 1 tunes, despite being a high profile company that no doubt has the eye of the EPA. This won't destroy our hobby, it'll just get a little more expensive and a lot cleaner. The only thing truly at risk is those of us with actual dedicated track cars that aren't registered for street use; they'll lose the ability to ignore emission controls for not a great reason, but they'll still be able to race.

Is it? Because CA bans intakes unless the company pays millions to buy off the CARB board, and current administration thinks CA is just the right track to take us all down. And if you think insane noise limits are not coming after or right before the "all EV" push they are doing you're in lala land. ;)

Thank you for shrugging off the government making my hobby more expensive. Let me give you my Paypal account info, feel free to send me all that extra money. LOL Don't get me wrong, I am not a fan at all of catless setups on road cars, it's completely retarded. But the second you step aside and let the government take something you don't care about, it's not long before they show up again and again and eventually they will take something you DO care about. They are perfectly capable of enforcing the law without attacking the industry, but that doesn't give them power over our lives and assumed authority in our garages.

As far as race cars......think the government is going to make NASCAR strap on cats? Indy!?!?! IMSA?!? Why do we have to do it? Nothing like coming out of a corner on a hot lap setting you're best time and BAM, clogged O2 sensor shuts you down, or PCV blows.

That's kinda how it was with the ADA compliancy. There were rules in place, but they were kind of limbo and they were working on changing them so they were never really enforced. Then they were just kind of like, we'll change them eventually, but we're not going to look at them at all right now. Soon after that a bunch of people started getting sued. Most people had no idea what ADA compliancy even was or thought it only applied if you had an ecommerce store. Winn-Dixie had a huge lawsuit against them. This is also why PornHub has subtitles now.
