Hi there, I have a 2007 golf tsi and the other day driving home from work it just died whilst at the lights, I put it in park and took the key out and went to restart...nothing no dash lights , light t was immobilised or something, after a few tries it started , got it around the corner and it did the same thing.. I took it to a garage who replaced the ignition switch (very expressive) and once I got home from the garage and parked my car I thought I would test it...turned car off took the key out and when I went to start the car..nothing ,I left the key in the acc position and after maybe 15-20 seconds click click and the lights came on and I could start the car .... Any ideas be much appreciated, could the car be loosing signal with my key?

Did you try putting a fresh battery in the key fob? Cheap, quick, easy thing to try.

The key fob battery has nothing to do with the immo, you can actually separate the key fob button section and leave it at home and start the car with just the front half. You can take the key blade off the key fob and hold the front part of fob an inch or so from the reading coil and just turn just the blade in the lock cylinder to start the car and then take away the fob and the car will continue to run until turned off. The immo is only looking for a match to start.

What exactly was replaced?

Hi there thanks for your message .I believe it was the ignition switch electric portion.. Car seems to be fine ,hasn't stalled or died on me however once I park the car after a drive,I can't start it straight away again ,have to wait a minute or so before I can get power ..hope that makes sense ? Is that normal ? Today I parked at the gas station, hopped out then saw the pump was out of order ,jumped back in the car and went to move to a different pump, turned the key and nothing happened,no power no dash lights just the little red LCD screen was on,I left the key on the second stage of ignition and after about 30 seconds dash lite up car came alive and I could start the car ... Very strange.
Any ideas be greatly appreciated , I can't afford to keep taking it to garages without any ideas , cheers

Ok so the part they replaced costs anywhere from $20 for aftermarket to $85 for a dealer part and takes less than 1/2 hour without removing the steering wheel. So I am not sure why it would be so expensive.

Did they give you a scan print out for any trouble codes? I would start with a complete scan of the car with a proper scan tool that can look at all the modules in the car and see what it might show. Do you have access to a Vcds scan tool? Does this issue happen with both keys?

I think I remember seeing a Tech Bulletin for something similar, lets see if I can find it.

I paid $520 nz dollars , I think I will take it to VW specialist this week, I don't have access or know how to scan for codes , and when the garage did it it came back with a "ignition switch failure" , can seems to be fine accept for that delay in restarting once stopped.. I'm driving with anxiety it will die on me again. Thank you so much for you help , just would be good to know why it's now doing that
