either:

A) snag a TDI, throw malone stage 2, supporting mods, save money on fuel n get better mpg on that

B) Get a '15 WRX n keep it stock, those hold value (even a 30k mile example are $27k, you can't do that to a VW) , sure you'll get just as good mileage as ur .:R, but you'll get much better $$ in return. R's are also better value, well compared to most other vw's and but not as good as subies or wranglers.

i'd honestly would go for a different brand since all you had are VW's

What kind of traffic/climate/roads do you drive in/on?
Northeast. Lotta highway driving. Especially in my ski trips to NY/VT/ME which can be in snowy/icy type conditions. Usual PA/NJ potholes and shit, too.

I can get you into a comfier Audimobile.

All you've gotta do is sign right here: X______________________________
Well played:laugh:

i'd rather be in your car than my car. the tiny cost of gas will be far outweighed by the changing car costs. once the MK7 R M/T is out, then its time to move.
Yeah, good point man. It's not just gas though. It's the thought of paying $600 a month for a car with 100k miles on it in a year.

Your car is probably worth 18-20k tops. So you're underwater as is... There is no "right" decision per say. If you wanted to save money you get an actual cheap car like a manual early 2000s civic and drive that. Other than that you'll be bleeding money by switching into anything more expensive.

Is your interest rate ok? If not it may be time to refinance and or buy something cheaper.
Interest rate is my only saving grace, 0%. And I am open to considering a cheaper car but it has to handle 1,000 mile round trips packed full of ski gear in snowy conditions reliably.

I think you should just keep it. You have put a lot of money into the R and it is setup quite well. Sucks to spend so much for gas, but at least you can have fun when you want.
This is definitely my default course of action. Just trying to gauge what possibilities are out there. Sounds like not much so far, which I'm OK with.

have you considered going to 17" wheels and tires?
Yes, God yes. Definitely is on the radar.

BTW gas is cheap now... I don't see this complaining...
I'm not complaining. So stop complaining about me not complaining:D

Keep it clean, drive the balls off of it and wait for the depreciation curve to bottom out.

I wouldn't sweat it.
True. True. Guess not everyone can pull off what did there. Sweet move you made:thumbsup:

LOL welcome to my world... On the R32 I was driving +/-40K a year and spending upwards of $700 a month in gas... Traded it in on a Golf TDI and the savings literally paid for the difference in cost. Yes I was upside down on the R; yes I had to roll it into the cost of the TDI to trade; now I spend on average ~$200 a month in diesel, saving me a net of almost $400 a month even after the increased monthly car payment.

It can be worth it; but it depends on what you really want. I wanted the money for other things; $400 a month is a big chunk of screw-around cash for whatever we want to do now; but I can't floor the TDI and get pushed back in the seat or laugh maniacally at the VR6 symphony either...

If you care about the performance; keep the GoRf and put some lightweight 17s on it. You'll be surprised at how much of a difference that will make in the ride.

If you don't really care anymore; look into a TDI... More comfortable ride, and ~40+ mpg can make a big difference in what it actually costs you to switch...
This is exactly the type of thing I am trying to consider. I may not do it but I at least need something real and tangible to start crunching numbers to make the call.

Was it a mk4 or mk5 R32?

Lol dude spent $10k in mods on a car that depreciated to being worth less than remaining principal.. Seems like u had better odds at the casino.. Hold on to ur turboyaris for a bit before u make another bad placcism financial decision...
EL OH FUCKING EL:laugh:

I know right? That's kinda why I put this out there... too much koolaid is in me:laugh:

The Dude lives and dies by the steady glow of the VW check engine light.

What options would you get? Premium? Limited? I guess limited would be closest to what I have now with the R if I add the nav/keyless/harmon kardon.

Invoice is 32,021 on that. So I'd be in at 31,080 with VIP (no TTL). Maybe other incentives can lower that a hair. Still, that's probably not going to lower my monthly because Subie never does 0% interest.

F VIP.. need to find a dealer that will go lower.

If you have to go loaded, I'd say you should be looking closer to $30K with destination.. may be hard to find, depending on you and your area.
