Sealed or Ported Subwoofer

Sealed or ported subwoofer box?

I have either one or two Alpine 10" Type R's to install in my 09 GTI and cant decide to go with either a seal or ported box.

If I go sealed I'm thinking of two custom fiberglass enclosures to each side of the truck, or if I go ported just one, MDF box on one side.

Any opinions or ideas? Thanks.

Sealed for accuracy and low extension, ported for SPL. Really up to you what you're looking for. If you mean the SWR-1022D I'd make a sealed 18-19 liter box. This is what they recommend:

sealed 14.1-22.6 liters
optimal sealed 18.4 liters
ported 17-36.8 liters
optimal ported 36.8 liters

i did not read through these, simply used google, so you decide how valid and educated they are. what i am saying is that the "ported vs sealed" question has been asked many many times before.

i hope you find your answer, it is a personal decision and based on your needs and requirements and limitations you will end up choosing one or the other.

I'm just worried about space, I have one of these subs in a cookie cutter type box made specifically for my Type R, but its just rectangular and not custom enough for me. I ask the question sealed vs ported because I want to use my truck as much as possible instead of the back seat for transporting stuff, ie golf clubs and luggage so...i'm thinking sealed is the way to go, tho the rumble of a ported box is pretty sweet.
