I really like it so far, I have only gotten to use it indoors so far because of snowy shit weather but i think i'm really going to like this lens. so far I have 4 lenses already including the kit lens (for my rebel xsi).

Ah, I have an XSI too, with the kit lens.

$400+tax. I also got the wireless remote for $18, it's freakin sweet! I'm excited to do selfs and family shots now.

I would. I have taken about 75 shots with it so far and not a problem. I would say get this lens or go for the lesser priced Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8. both lenses had pretty good reviews from users, and rated a 4.5-4.7 out of 5.

for the cost and quality I give this lens a 5 out of 5, especially if you don't have $800 for the canon comparable.
