View Full Version : Fuel pump not priming?

In the mornings when i try to start my GTI it'll turn over for a good 20 seconds before starting and sometimes it'll feel like it's turned over and when i let go of the key it dies. This doesn't happen all the time, but when it does it really sounds like it's struggling. I know that the fuel pump is supposed to prime when you open the door but so far i cannot hear anything when i pull the door handle. Also, if it's on an incline it's worse and when it's cold it's pretty bad.

Any ideas?

The car has right at 50k miles on it.

hmmm...just outside of warranty too.

Do you hear a buzzing from the rear when the car is running?

oh no, i've got an extended cpo warrantee until 74000 so i'm all set with that. The only problem is that the closest VW dealership is about an hour away on a good day. I will eventually bring it in but i am still curious as to what the problem is.

I haven't noticed a buzzing sound but i haven't been listening for one. I'm sure the fuel pump works as i've got no loss of power, doesn't stall once it's started, etc.

I'll listen for the buzzing when i get off work at 3a.

any other ideas?
