RCD-500 MP3 Compatability

Hi there guys.

Just need some clarification. Does the RCD-500 head unit actually play mp3 cd's and display the id3 tags ? Someone on here posted pics of it but I can't find anything on the Blaupunkt site which actually sayds it supports mp3 cd's.

Some clarification would be great.

The last I heard, the RCD500 basically had a built in 6disc changer and was NOT mp3 capable.

Thats what everyone says Shaun, but the product planner for the GTI range at Uitenhage told me that is the radio that will be an option on all orders from week 29. Im stumped:iono:

My car was supposed to include the RCD500 but alas not, so dealer has it ordered ..now ovr 3 weeks ago and still nada :iono:

Ok well for those interested I got some clarification for the parts guys at the factory. There are apparently a few different versions of the RCD-500 as well as the RCD-300 all of which are customized according to OEM manufacturers requirements. There are both mp3 enabled and mp3 disabled versions. I will hopefully have a part number by tomorrow on the mp3 unit.

I've order my GTI here in the UK with RDC500 because it was the cheapest option. I wanted cd 6 disc. The standard unit and armrest with 6disc unit in arm rest is £395 but RCD500 is £275 armrest is £115 you get the storage space in the rest and save £5, but you get 7 CDs one in head unit and six in arm rest the other way.

I think the unit can play MP3 but is dependant on default set up, dependant on regional settings from factory. Also it requires the MP3 format to be correct (not sure which settings / file structure to use)

Thats the USA market headunit not the one's we get in europe/UK.

yea mine plays mp3's and labels the songs most of the time i think it depends on the mp3 file tho:thumbup:

Ok well I have had some clarification from the VW factory here in South Africa. The mp3 compatible RCD-500 is part number 3C0-057-195A. Apparently this is a newish unit and some dealers may not have any information on it yet. This information comes directly from Germany to the guys at VWSA so it should be correct.

Hope that sorts out some confusion.
