New project: hard wired passport 8500 x50

I just finished up hard wiring the passport x50 radar detector with hard wire smart control feature. It is very simple to do.

I was originally planning on tapping into the power in the overhead console, but due to the smart control cable I purchased that did not make sense anymore. I ended up pulling the power from the fuse box. The unit is grounded in the fuse box as well.

That is the remote smart control unit. it has a light for power and one for activity. It also has a mute button.

Unit is posted up high and the phone cord power cable thing is stuffed back into the headliner, and then makes its way down to the fuse box.

Top arrow is where I grounded. Bottom arrow is where I piggybacked onto the sunroof fuse for power.

If you don't need the remote, then you could simply tap into the overhead which would also be pretty easy, but requires more time then opening the fuse box.

it does unless you mount it super low on the windshield or in front of the visor. i have mine mounted just to the right of the rearview mirror and the visor covers about 3/4 of the unit, but the rear eye is on the left side so it still has clear line of sight.

I've tried to piggyback off of every fuse that seems as though it would be off until activated (ie, sunroof, rear defogger, etc) but the 8500 remains on every time I turn off the car :(

Anyone know of a location I can possibly plug in an extra fuse or an "add-a-circuit" to provide power only when the car is on? Would it be better to feed from the ignition or deck wires (if they're easy to find)?

The only question I have is does the radar sensor that points toward the rear have a clear line of sight to back window?

The back facing sensor on the escort is only a laser detector, and from what I've read, a laser shot by an officer (aiming for your license plate) is only 18" wide at its furthest reliable point. With such a small beam being fired, I'm not sure if it would ever hit the detector up in the front windshield. Even if it did, all the Escort would be saying is "bleep! you just got tagged speeding! the officer will be with you shortly to issue a citation."

I've recently reiceved a Cobra XRS-R9G which comes with a fused line to hardwire. I need a 12v acc to tap into. now I have a package 0 and don't have a sunroof under the fuse box am I still going to have a working slot for it? Or is it just going to worthless if so where else could I tap into and how to hard wire it. BTW its pretty sick and stealthy. The detector unit has no lights or nothing gives voice commands telling when it detects something and differentiates between them IE not only identifying the standard x,Ku,K,POP and Ka bands but also offers VG2 and SP1 radar detector detectors along with telling me which type of laser (Lidar) I'm being tracked with. It has a wireless full color digital display that also can be set to color match my blue/Red interior I'll take a few pics tonight of it. It also offers Emergency Vehicle alerts, Road hazard alert, strobe alert from different types of emergency vehicle and Railroad alerts. Its also GPS controlled and has listing as to where red light camera's are as well as 1 touch programing for referencing that isn't in Cobra's database.
Thanks for the help I just need some guidelines and where to tap exactly. I'm handy worked with plenty of electronics radio's and so on Just havent dived into the GTI's mess of electrical systems yet and don't want to end up like the R that caught fire because a incorrectly hardwired V1.

Thanks
