My little brother is looking at cars now and has saved up just under 15,000. He loves cars and is looking for a good all-around sports car. He has narrowed it down to the cars in the poll, but is open to suggestions. What do you guys think the best pre-owned sports car is?

First off, there's no poll. Without seeing what he's narrowed it down to, I'll just list my prefrences (in no particular order)....

BMW E36 M3 ('95 if possible - best year)
BMW M roadster
BMW M coupe
Mazda FD RX-7 TT
Honda S2000
Toyota MKIV Supra TT
Subaru WRX '02-'03
Subaru 2.5RS '99-'01
VW GTI
Pontiac Firebird TransAm WS-6 '01ish+
Nissan 240sx '97-'98
Toyota MR-2 T
Acura Integra Type-R or GSR
Audi S4
Chevy Camaro SS
Chevy Corvette
Dodge Neon SRT-4
Honda EK or EP3 Civic Si
Ford Mustang GT or Cobra
Lexus SC300
Mazda MX-5 Miata
Nissan 300ZX TT
Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4
Porsche 944 T

^ most of those will leave enough money for mods, engine swap, and/or forced induction...

i voted for the 2000 S4...but your gonna need to replace the turbos and the oil lines , coz they were too small in the 2000 models

2015 Golf R (TUNED)
2002 A4 1.8t and put a huge turbo w/software on 'er and you will kill most of them cars out there and still get decent MPG. 3.0's are for pussies! Turbo is where it's at.

i picked teh gti 1.8t, because i think it'd be a fun and viable car to mod. if your going to get a sports car of sorts, its better to get one that you can work on yourself.

Out of the ones listen in your poll, I'd pick the M3 (although in 1995 - it was OBD1 and had a better intake manifold).

Buddy of mine bought a red '95 with 130k on it - damn thing is effin nice!! drives like new...paid like $8,000 IIRC

I voted S4 simply because I've been looking into them lately as a replacement for my car. However, I've heard that they have transmission problems.

I figured M3 would take the most votes. What about reliability though? Will it cost many hundreds of dollars every year to keep it going?

Repairs will be more expensive on a BMW that, say, a Japanese car, but older BMWs were very reliable!

My buddy that bought the '95 M3....not only does it drive like new, it's been as reliable as it was when new.
