i have d3000 but i hate how it doesnt have an AF in the body so any lens you get needs AF or youll be manual focusing 24/7

im looking at trading it in for d5000
i heard it has the autofocus so its good with any lens and the movie makes me happy too.

let me know what you think Thxx

d5000 don't have focus motor on the body just like d3000. either you have to go with used d70,d80 or step up to d90 and above. AF-D lenses won't work with d5000

I can shed a little light, as I have a d5000 myself. No AF motor in the camera body. Lense has to have AF for it to work. Otherwise, you're focusing it yourself. Not necesarrily a bad thing, though.

As for the HD video capabilities of the d5000, it shoots vide wonderfully. But the mic is overly sensitive and audio isn't so hot. I tried to shoot my exhuast vids w/ my d5000 and while they looked wonderful, they sounded like crap! Audio clipped like a son-of-a-bitch.
