Back in April a lady in an suv totalled my MKIV GTi.
So I bought a new GTi at Chapman in Tucson.
If I remember correctly, I believe they recorded my
Insurance info and I assume they submitted it to the
ADOT. Well in NOV, I received a letter from ADOT
saying that they needed me to submit proof of Insurance.
I called them and they said I could fax it to them and they gave me a number.
I faxed it and figured the issue was settled.
Well now I received a letter from them saying that my Regestration is suspended
because they still have no proof of insurance on file
and it will cost $50 to re-instate my regestration!
I tried to call them again, but they stopped taking calls at 4:30pm.
I'm out in Cali visiting family for the holidays so I can't easily show-up
at an ADOT office to straighten this out.
Have any of you had something like this happen? :iono:

as long as you have been paying your insurance, get a letter from your insurance carrier that there has not been a lapse in insurance and take it to your local AZ MVD (DMV for the Cali side in you).

They just want to verify that you have had continous coverage. Just call then and tell them you have faxed it in the past and you will be more than happy to refax it.

Andy,

You will be fine and if it is in fact an error the MVD should re-instate the registration and remove the mandatory insurance suspension.

Don't think this is Chapman's fault though, usually what happens and probably in your case, when your last car was totalled the insurance company sends a letter to the MVD saying the car is no longer insured, they are required to do this. What they are not required to do is notify MVD that you have gotten insurance again on another car.

This same thing happens all of the time when you switch insurance companies. Company #1 sends a letter to MVD and says you have deinsured your car. Company #2 gives you new insurance but never notifies MVD.

As long as you can show that you have had no lapse in coverage you should be able to get the suspension lifted.

But keep in mind that your plate is now suspended, it shows when any officer runs your plate that it is suspended for not having vehicle insurance and should not be operated on the roadway, and that is reason enough to pull you over.

Not a big deal in Cali., but as soon as you get back in AZ, you have a good chance of getting a ticket, and it is just shy of $500.

IF you have any other specific questions just PM me...

Well I just got-off the phone with ADOT and they said that
if I want to maintain my regestration in AZ.
that I am required to get my Insurance from an AZ. Insurance company.
My problem is that I origionally got my insurance in Cali for my MKIV which had Cali plates.
Then when I got hit in AZ. I bought my MKV in AZ. and
had my insurance changed over to the new car.
However, Im still using the company (AAA in Cali) that I have been using.
I don't see why it matters if I bought my insurance from AAA in Cali or AAA in AZ.
I think this is a bunch of breaucractic b.s! Now I'm most likely going
to have to get Cali plates which I don't wanna do.
Since I'm in-between jobs, and I don't know when is the next time I'll be working in AZ.
