Hi Guys,
I'm hoping someone mite be able to help me, I have a 07 R32 and have got a RCD 510 MP3 unit on the way. I'm trying to find where the CAN bus Gateway is located in my car. I've done a bit hunting around the car but i can't locate it. I've read threads from other forums which say that its located in different spots. So i was hoping someone with a R32 who has changed the unit & the CAN bus Gateway mite be able to help!!

Cheers Stef

Right under the driver's side dash, above the right hand foot rest - near the boot release. It's purple.

im not certain where it's located, but i can tell you that the gateway itself is BLACK, not PURPLE.
the plug might be purple, but the gateway itself is black.

mine was swapped over by a VW specialist mechanic, so i can't help with it's exact location.

Sorry.

Jason.

go upside down in the drivers footwell, you will see it, it's on the underside of the dash, to the right of the steering wheel, just to the left of the bonnet release!

good luck

The CAN bus has a Red rectangular plug. Its a black module, located behind a set of relays.

If you remove the lower dash trim on the driver side, and remove the relay box. Then you can easily see the CAN gateway.

I replaced that part on my R32, have got the photos somewhere if you need them.

Edit: Also you will require that gateway to be programmed as well. Someone who knows what they are doing with VAG-COM can do it.

good news that you found it.

when the time comes for the swap over, make sure that you copy all the existing code from the version K gateway,
and transfer them to the new one.

My dad has Launch diagnostic tool so i'm hoping that it will be able to recode the new gateway. I asked my local VW dealership about doing it, but they where very coy about it!! You spend $60,000 with them & when you want there help they palm you off!!

As far as I know, you will need VCDS / VAG-COM.
That's the only tool that can make changes in the gateway.

All the other diagnostic tools can do is read and reset fault codes.

Having Trouble

I cannot seem to work out how to remove the relay box. I can get the upper one out which is a simple clip. Any suggestions?
