If you are going with spacers, definitely get extended struts just to stay safe, running spacers minimizes the struts threads that you bolt the wheels lugs on, which causes stress on them and they might fail and make the wheels fall off the car, specially if you are causing even more stress on the struts by autocrossing..

I always suggest staying in the safe side and getting wheels with proper offset from the first place, spacers were never a choice to me..

Threaded fastener trivia - the maximum strength of the system is achieved with just three threads engaged. The remaining thread length adds to fastener retention, not overall strength of the system in tension or shear.

Most wheel lugs are long enough to get away with a 5mm spacer, 10 or 15 is probably pushing it.
