MPG raised suddenly
Was driving to my girl's house, clicked my MFD over to mpg and it was already reading like 25 and going up. Normally driving to her house im lucky i can get around 22-24 so i was wondering if my cars just bugging out.
I ended up getting to her house roughly 15 miles away from my house with it saying 29mpg on the MFD and i was surprised as hell. I havnt done jack shit to the car and was wondering maybe if its because of it getting warmer out. Past few weeks its been in the 40's and 50's and the past few days its got close to 60. would warmer weather cause my mpg to rise that high? im my case like 6 almost 7 mpg? Even on the way home i hit 26 and it had dropped like 5 degrees outside. Even this morning on the way to work, it was in the high 40's i barely hit like 21 for a 7 or so mile ride. On the way back home from work, it still wasnt even as high as tonight. Anyone else notice with warmer temps, higher mpg? |

I did not change my driving habits at all.. I just let DSG do its thing and drive.. Like a week ago if i got on it and had some fun id see my mpg go down a reasonable chunk. I tried to do the same on the way to her house and it would dip a bit but no where near as usual

Yes, warmer air = less dense air so less fuel is injected to mix it. It might also have something to do with the gas in your tank. I know, at least here in Canada, we have winter gas during the cold months which gives us bad mpg.

something not right. were u on the highway?
if not reset your MFD to 0. then let it start and see if its fixed. caue i get around 23 in the city and 30 on the highway but 29 in the city is very unlikely. i was getting horrible MPG in the winter like around 18-19mpg but now its alot better. but yeah reset your MFD and see what happens |

idk, it just threw me for a loop because I havnt seen those numbers in soo long. Ever since ive gone stage2 and especially with the catless dp and all the fun i have sometimes it hard to keep over 20mpg. funny thing is, right now im 1/4 of a tank of gas

A 15 mile trip is not enough to make any conclusions, also that MFD display isn't the most accurate way to determine your mpg. You should calculate your mpg each time you refill your tank, that way you'll get the most accurate calculation and also you'll be consciously keeping tabs on what's "normal" for you and know when something is not quite right. I average between 27-30mpg for every fill up, sometimes a little more sometimes a little less but usually somewhere between there. You're chipped (I'm pretty sure from what I've read/heard) so that will increase your mpg as long as you're not constantly taking advantage of the increased performance (which I've heard is pretty hard not to do).
But judging by what I've heard about you and your driving I'd have to guess that maybe you kept your speed in the double digits for this trip and that's why you increased your mpg
