DIY: Rear Bumper/Valence Removal (who the hell uses 56k?)

so i was in the process of swapping out my valence for a votex, had a camera in hand and decided why not.

this took me and my friend about an hour. even though he didn't really do anything but hand me the tools. once you get the hang of this, it gets pretty easy. this is my 3rd time doing a bumper removal on an mkv.

required tools:

-TORX set (don't know what size, so it's good to have different ones)
-philips screwdriver
-10mm socket wrench
-hands

optional:

-car

______________________________________________

NOTE: the taillight removal and the wheel well screws have to be done on both sides of the car.

step 1:

step 2: here's the car (optional of course.) stare at it for a few minutes. (pic whorage)

step 3: open the hatch and pull the carpets on the sides outwards. there's a slit in the carpet on each side of the hatch for this. don't be afraid to use some force.

step 4: once the carpet is pulled back, you'll see this. now we'll be taking out the taillights.

step 5: when i say "pry out", i mean push the clip outwards and it'll fall out.

there's also one more lower than these 2 in the pic: (forgot to take a snapshot of that)

Wait, did i miss something....

you actually have to remove the entire rear to get the bottom bumper off?

What does the Votex kit consist of?

and the TX bit sizes are 20+25 AFAIK or maybe 15+20, i forget

great write up!

question, how do u remove the other tail light? then one of the trunk hatch?

i'm not sure, i think you take the plastic cover off and there's two 10mm hex nuts just like the side lights.

you have to take off the rear to put the valence back on. ive heard of some people doing it without taking it off but i tried for an hour and couldn't get it on the first time. so i just went ahead and took the entire bumper off. makes it way easier, those clips are a bitch to get in.

you don't have to remove the entire rear to get the bottom valence off, however it is a bitch to take off with removing the rear. and it is next to impossible to put back on without having the rear off

good write up
