MY08 GTI - Broken drivers side lumbar

Hey guys,

Have a almost year old GTI, with leather & electric lumbar, etc. Went to adjust my seat at the lights yesterday and heard what sounded like a mashing of cogs and the motor giving up.

Now it moves up & down intermittently, but back & forward i just get a clicking sound, similar to when you hold a drill on a low torque setting.

Have any of you experienced this and is it a big job for the dealer to repair? Tempted to just get the seats replaced.

Thoughts?

if its only 1 year old, then i guess it would be covered by warranty. take it into the stealers and get them to check it out.

Well i been trying to get mine fixed.. the switched would stop working intermittently. The lumber would not reset to the back position, and would in most cases push back out when you track the unit in the vertical direction.

So far they have replaced the entire lumber and its still doing the tracking issue but not so bad, but VW Aus have informed my stealership to now replace the switch mechanism. So far it has been in the shop 3 times, after this one if its not done... I will be requesting a complete replacement seat.

Had that plus a large chunk of leather paint has been stripped from the lumber and lift mechanism is broken (car is 8 month old). Being waiting for the parts for the last 3 month and the decision from VW Australia about the leather damage.

Good luck

I agree with the above, go and visit the dealer. If it's just over a year they may do something out of good will etc.

I'd hate to buy one of these cars when they are >10 years old.. a lot of crap to go wrong with the electronics.

I just had the same problem and it was fixed under warranty. It is the motor. They have to take the seat out and then apart. They gave me a loaner for the day though cause it was a warranty issue. Its around $800 to fix with out warranty.

^you make it look and sound easy.

I guess they aren't that different to normal cars, but different enough! Okenty of technology in these cars.
