I know there have been posts on this topic, but I recieved many, MANY PM's asking for the part number etc, so the info is all here.
Enjoy!

MDI is tight, no doubt but some of us dont have the RNS510 or the cash for the full MDI set up.

For me I chose the newest ipod set up available from VW. (new is a relative term)
Customer cost at the parts counter is ~$240.

I installed this yesterday in my car and I really dig it.

Some downsides though...
1. It will not charge new generation ipod, iphone, itouch etc.. (easily remedied by adding SCOSCHE
http://www.scosche.com/products/productID/1667 )

2. When PLAY ALL is chosen, it sorts alphabetically by song title if you dont have playlists set up. I created playlists by artist and it works great that way, just 1 way to fix it.

Overall I think its sweet. Sounds 10x better than that damn aux input + you can see what your listening to without touching the ipod.

btw, install is SUPER easy, but your car must have a sirius tuner for this set up to work (sirius subscription NOT required, you just need the hardware)

OP,

Do you still have sirius radio or does it replace that function? I also noticed another part number online that was for radios without sirius.

Could you describe the install process?

Thanks

If ipod is connected the sirius radio will not work, all you have to do is disconnect the ipod then sirius comes back.
==
1. Remove glovebox & glove box trim, pass side kick panel & lower floor trim and cover to sirius tuner under pass seat.
2. Plug harness into sirius tuner & plug sirius tuner wires into harness.
3. Mount ipod module on glovebox.
4. Tuck remaining billion feet of wire in wave formation not to make electro magnet & route end to iopd module on glovebox.
5. Route wire from iopd module into glovebox for ipod.
6. Reinstall glovebox & trim
Good To Go!

***Instructions are detailed & supplied with parts.

Hmmm, the one I've got does seem to charge my iPhone without an adapter.

Nyccceeeee... and it won't charge a 3G iPhone????

Old ipod's etc use 12v firewire charging, as stated in the link above, apple moved to 5v usb charging but not everyone was listening so the adapter from scosche converts the 12v to 5v, therefore it charges the ipod.

hey todd, how hard is it to swap an older ipod adaptor for that new one? overal what is the functinoality difference? i see that you get track/artist names with is really really nice, but can you browse the ipod on the head unit? or is it like the old one, you get 5 playlists, or have to preselect the song on the ipod?

The armrest ipod adapter plugs into the quadloc at the radio, so the above set up is completely different as it plugs into the sirius box.

This set up specs are:
*up to 250 playlists
*each playlist can have up to 250 songs
*SCAN function
*SHUFFLE function
*controlling via milti-function steering wheel

I had the opportunity to observe 9schnell's gear in action over the weekend.

Probably could have phrased that better, but whatever.

It's actually just another thing I wish had come stock on our vehicles...the limited playlist/songs per list thing sounds annoying, but his is setup to use it quite well...the thing I noticed and liked was that it talked quickly with the iPod when he scanned songs or playlists.

(AFAIK) This works with Premium 7 and sirius tuner ONLY.

The part number is in the first pic.

The part number pictured is for the whole kit.
