Why do you need to reset it for ?

The dealer can reset it, they just don't want to. Several TSBs for early DSG issues even call out a reset.

Good luck finding someone to reset it. The Ross-tech wiki has the directions necessary. If you can't find an individual near you that can do it, try any of the local APR/Revo/GIAC tuners. Most have a VAG-COM. While they may not have actually reset a DSG before, if you bring the wiki directions I'm sure most will willingly do it for a nominal fee.

The ross-tech wiki site lists the DSG reset procedure. I'll try to dig up the link in a few minutes.

OP - The dealer does not use vag-com to reset the DSG. They have their own factory tool for working with the ECU. That might be a source of confusion.

If you want to try the dealer again, vw.tb.35-06-01 on the following link could be helpful. The bottom of p2, where the cause is listed as 'inadequate adaptation' calls for a 'perform basic settings'. Perform basic settings is VW terminology for reseting the DSG. It resets and forces the DSG to relearn the clutch engagement pressure values.

If you go the vag-com route, make sure you do the prescribed drive cycle afterwards. Otherwise, you might end up with worse adaptation settings than you started with.

Here's a link to the directions to reset adaptations (basic settings) for the DSG.

reset DSG adaptations

If you're not used to these vag-com screens it reads like a really bad set of directions. However, it will all make sense once you see the transmission basic settings screen.

Try the following procedure.

1. Turn the ignition ON, but don't start the engine.

2. Floor the gas pedal and hold it like that for 20-30 seconds.

3. Turn the ignition OFF, release the gas pedal.

It might be not the complete DSG reset, but at least your shift logic will be reset.

I do it from time to time and it works for me.

That will NOT reset your DSG... Thats an old BMW tiptronic procedure.

The only way to reset it is with the vag-com. I did mine last night and trust me, if you reset it, you'll know. The engine has to be on, in park with your foot HARD on the brake. It feels and sounds like the tranny is going to drop right out of the car during the first part of the procedure as it goes through the engage calibration.

Oh yea the reset procedure you have to firmly hold onto the brake it feels like an animal trapped in a cage itching to come out. My DSG was skipping gears in manual mode and the reset with VAGCOM fixed it!

And also after the reset, you gotta drive the car for an hour the computer will shift like a noob in the beginning and will slowly re-learn its way back into a pro.

yeah, keep it in tiptronic and go from 1st through 6th keeping it in 3 or 5 for 5 minutes and 4 or 6 for 5 minutes. Then a hard stop followed by full acceleration.

I did the reset once before but didnt let the first step finish. My 3rd to 4th gear shift was clunking so i did the reset again. The reset fixed it and tightened up all my other shifts as well. Even my shifting into reverse is smooth now.
