[oops, thread title should say 2.0T FSI not 2.0TFSI--this is the '06 motor. ...]

I'm not sure, but I think it's a little worn. HPFP seems to be showing a little wear also. Cam might be ok, hard to tell. Bone Stock 2006 GLI, 0w40Mobil1 every 10k. misfiring at idle since about 60k miles. have been chasing coils and plugs, but perhaps this is the culprit.

discuss.

notice compared to the new one, the entire rounded crown is gone, giving it a pointy top edge.
[update: for "check out fee" dealer confirmed abnormal wear...and escalated to factory rep for possible "goodwill" coverage since my warranty is long gone. Waiting to hear back. ]

Mobile 1 ow40 has proved to be one of the worst vw 502 oils via oil test. Better off using lubro moly 5w40 if you wanna stick w/ approved oil. Oil in our cars is pretty much spent <6000 miles. Check out bobistheoilguy.com and look around for some post about guys witha RS4 and teh FSI v8 that killed all the oils bc of the fuel dilution issues and helped create a oil with a well known, and very well respected, oil guru, Terry Dyson.

Also, ya that is some pretty narly damange hopefully the part that is missing from the follower is not creating anymore damange. I have a 06 w/ a build date of 12/05 and going to check the cam rev, some early 06 people have seen the rev B cam on it just wanna check out what i got. At about 25k my pump was pulled by dealer and was showing no sign of wear, had a fuel issue but was not the hpfp. Just keeping my fingures crossed that i dont punch through one. Also i have the banjo style hpfp and its a via to get off i have hurd.

Build date of 10/05 here and I have a "B" cam - you probably do to, but you'll obviously have to check it to be sure.

I had been using Mobil 1 0W-40, with changes every 5K (car is at ~16500 miles now), but just changed to Castol Syntec 0W-30 European Formula (otherwise known as "Green Castrol" on the BITOG forums, although it is gold colored now) at my last oil change due to the good reviews on BITOG. Oil analysis looked ok with the M1 at 15k; I can't wait to see what it looks like at 20k with the Castrol. Last thing - I'm sorry, but I don't care what VW says (or anyone else), I would never run my car at 10K oil change intervals.

Yeah, i have 48k on the car now and i am switching over to the RLI 5w40. I have used Pentosynth 5w40, MOTUL 8100 both were not working very well and high Fe numbers, 50 ppm, with a high of 61 ppm. So going to do a few with RLI at 7k OCI.

Damn dude - that sucks! Warranty?
He is atr 85k so his warranty is pretty much gone, but has not updated on the if vw will still pick up the bill from good gesture.

Also, was the cam follower ever updated parts wise, i know that the am was to rev b, so if you have a rev b cam then you have the newest stuff and should be ok as i have not seen many rev b's cause failing followers.

Seems the cam follower has joined the nuisance club, along with the DV and the PCV. I've been hearing more and more about these failing within the last few months but yours is the worst I've seen. What sort of noises has your engine been making!? How long were you driving with misfires? ...25k??

I'm growing more and more curious as to why VW has advertised the 10k oil change. I was hyped about it when I bought my car, but I haven't had the balls to let it go more than 5k w/o new oil.

Good luck with the "goodwill" warranty claim. If you're bone stock with proof of the recommended service intervals (however crazy they seem to be) I would imagine they will back you up. If not... get on the phone with VWOA
