AWE vs APR DP

Hey guys disclaimer I am so drunk I am pretty much pickeled. Thank God for Bachelor Parties .

At any rate would some one convince me that the AWE down pipe is worth 1k when the 100 ceoll cat APR dp is 650. I know that Awe HAS finanacing but why is it 1k when a quality APR dp is 650 and if memory serves AWE is 200 cell. Thanks!!!

I am gboing to make an order tomorow. Please help!!!!!!!!! My goal is 275 crank hp. I figure a dp plus giac is all i need

13's here i come

because awe keeps promoting their german hjs cats. which honesty dont make a huge difference unless you need to smog test your car for emissions.

my APR 200 cell dp never threw a cel in the 300 miles i had it on before i went stage 2.

not to mention the apr is 3" vs the awe's 2.5"

i would go with an apr dp, heres my dyno:
keep in mind this is stock fuel pump, and dont bug me about the AFR

cant use any catback with eurojet downpipe. which is why i like the APR downpipe, you have the option of using any catback on the market.

becuase it was a measured using a sniffer post-cat.
HJS cats dont make a difference, they jsut cost more.
ive never seen an awe system make any more hp than an apr, eurojet, or any other quality system.

I'm not sure but the EJ dp fits into stock catback if you use a reducer, doesn't it?

if you are going to keep the car for more than 4 years - I'd go HJS - if not get the ceramic or metal matrix cat. My buddies GHL DP with ceramic cat lasted about 2 years. I'm waiting for someone to make a 3" DP with the HJS. There is a reason Miltek and AWE uses HJS - other than jacking up the price.

The HJS fail too . . . . often 2-3 years into their service life.

If you really want a 3" cat with HJS, look at Jetex.

I bought the AWE DP w/ 200 cell HJS cat when it was a little under 750. The APR was 600 and I could easily justify not throwing a CEL on my GIAC tune and the fact that the cat is much higher quality for the extra 150. I also was interested in keeping the 2.5" diameter since I had read about a few people burning out their turbos on 3" diameter DP's.

However, now that the AWE DP is 1000 I'm pretty sure I would have went with an alternative. The Jetex I'm sure is quite good if you really want a 3" and is an even better deal considering the AWE is actually more expensive... the Jetex goes for around 900 i think.

Thanks guys. I just could not justify the high cost of the AWE metal dp and you guys have confirmed that it is just expensive not better. APR seems like it would be a heck of a product, but maybe I will just buy the ceramic AWE dp and run water meth to make up for lost horsepower

IMO, if you're going to do that, you might as well just gut the pre-cat on your OEM DP and run that . . . .

I think he's just saying the cost/benefit of the ceramic DP isn't very good. Plus since the AWE DP is the same diameter as stock, you might get the same or better gains replacing or gutting the stock cat.

When I was comparing my AWE DP to the stock one, the AWE DP looked like overall it was designed to flow better. I'd wager that there are a little gains from just the more efficient piping, but I don't know how much.

Bottom line, with so many people running 3" DP's these days, tuners are mostly all using 3" DP's to tune their stage 2... so why not get a nice 3" DP from APR or Eurojet if you don't want to spend too much.

I'm sure that DP is perfect... what's the cost 1000? 1100? iirc Neuspeed was one of the most expensive exhaust systems.

$1000 bucks for any downpipe is just wrong - straight out wrong. My whole 1.8T Miltek turboback was $1000 two years ago.
