Melbourne - Drive/GTG - Sunday Oct 19

For the benefit of those who don't know French, Le Grand Tour is French for....The Grand Tour. You're already impressed, l can tell

Anyway, Melbourne, and Victorian members are invited to participate in a drive day / GTG on Sunday 19th October. This trip has been devised with flexibility in mind. The full round trip is 480 kilometres, so, it's a long drive and a FULL day. An early start is a must.

In order to accommodate those members who may not wish to travel a long way, or who may not have the time to spare, it is proposed that participants be encouraged to join and/or leave the cruise at various points along the way. Here are a couple of examples.

The meeting point, for an 8.30am start, is Village Court, Mulgrave, just off Springvale Road. Barloworld Holden and Barloworld Volkswagen are located in Village Court.

We will stop for lunch at Walhalla. This will also be an excellent photo-op location as it is a very olde worlde townee.

aus-mkv, DCGTI and yours truly did a pre-run of this drive last Sunday. We didn't make the whole distance because the starting time was too late, and, we were held up at one point on the Mt. Baw Baw Road by a fallen tree.

The full trip is a long drive, but, it is do-able (is that a real word) with ease in a MK5. Your car will love the trip, and so will you.

Awww man!!! At the moment not looking good for me AGAIN!!! But as long as Ongie goes and gets good photos, I'll be happy. Mind you, I've always wanted to get a shot of my car at Walhalla - describe the roads; narrow, greasy, obviously lotsa trees - I'd like to know in case one day :frown: I might actually get there!
Actually, I was thinking that we could line up all our cars in Barloworld to make it look like we were hiding out there - just like the (original and best) Italian Job!!! Oh well, just a suggestion.

Outstanding presentation Chris - i think you have out done yourself!

And burty.. the Walhalla road is actually better than i was expecting. Its not as narrow as i had heard - good quality two lane black top - centre line all the way from memory

All up this is a great route - varied roads and interesting scenery from snow on the victorian alps across the strezlecki ranges to the sea. If you havent been to Walhalla before you will be amazed. Its like a town frozen in time. Spectacular location.
These roads were made for people who enjoy the journey as much as the destination. A great Grand Tour to match a great GTI. Who is up for the challenge?

Welcome hades! It will be great to see some new faces besides the regulars.

For all the other new faces don't let not knowing anybody put you off joining in. It does feel a little like the first day at school but I promise you will fit right in. We are a friendly bunch!

(hades - little reminder before someone takes to you with the flamethrower - the "i" is a capital  )

Traralgon will be the largest regional centre we'll be passing through. It will provide an easy opportunity to top up in the fuel department before we tackle the Grand Ridge Road.
