I think APR's Stage 1 ECU reflash is either ready, or very close to being ready. They have the dyno graphs up on their site already. I'm probably going to get this someday, but I may wait a couple years to have it done as I don't want to void my warranty. I'll probably wait 20k or so miles, since I figure most major failures (at least anything due to a manufacturer's defect) will have occurred by then.

"whitelightning" You should get the chip! It is night and day difference! Just get stock mode for when you go to the Dealer....THey can't see the chip and you should be fine.

As far as engine work your best bet make a custom intake and thats about it so far, APR is quoting end of the month for stage one, other than that cosmetic mods are your only option.

Try searching next time though, this question gets asked every few days.

Most dealers won't care if your car is chipped if you're going in for routine maintenance or warranty work. That is, unless the failure was caused by you chipping the car (i.e. blown turbo).

For example, if your stock radio stops working it will still be covered under the warranty, since chipping your engine cannot possibly affect the radio.

You can check out the dyno graph of the APR Stage 1 reflash here:

http://goapr.com/VW/products/ecu_upgrade_mkvgtitsi.html

That page says it's coming soon.

Something about having to check the software code, right? From the FAQ:

Quote:
Can the VW Find My Chip?
Certain chips provide a security lock-out option which doesn’t allow one to change the mode without knowing the code(APR), or using a specific flashloader (GIAC) . When it is used in conjunction with stock mode, the chip is very very hard for the dealer to detect. If VW decides to analyze the software code, then it won’t match stock, and they will know you are chipped, but this is an extremely unlikely scenario. Also, most chip vendors will flash you back to a stock VW file if you wanted to (though it might not be the one that your car came with)
Anyone know under what circumstances they would check the software code? I keep telling myself that I won't get my car chipped until 20k miles, but it's pretty darned tempting.

3000 miles in and I went for it. Its a blast! Take it to a dealer that wont mind, I know fladeboe here in Irvine doesnt care, I was hitting 21PSI and holding and they warranted clunking, service, etc.

I'm likely to be relocating once I find a job I like. I'll have to wait until after that to see if I can find a local mod-friendly dealer. I'm less worried now that I've read that stock boost on the TSI is lower than on the FSI...makes me think that the boost can be turned up a bit without compromising engine life. This car is a gift from my parents and I plan on driving it for a long time.
