Wheel Arch Extensions

At the local VW dealer on Sat, the demo GTI they have has the 18x8" Khartoum wheels fitted. As the wheels are an inch wider than the standard 17s, the dealer has to fit these small wheel arch extensions to comply with ADR regs (I probably should have taken a photo). I mentioned to the dealer that I would be looking to fit 18s if I purchased a new GTI, to which he replied that I would definitely need these extensions. I didn't think that would be a problem...until I was told that they cost an additional $500!

Has anyone here fitted a bigger wheel/tyre combo and if so what knowledge do you have of these wheel arch extensions?

you can put bigger wheels on after you buy it, but if you get it with the 18 from the dealer then you have to have them.

$330 each (list). Half the price of the Karthoum 18" wheel.

ADR's can tongue my poop hole.

Got the Monza II on mine, which are 18s (but 7" wide), Dealer fitted with no crappy extensions!!
You'd probably get away with 7.5" wide wheels without too many worries...
