New GTI Ordered - Need Roo Bar advice
Hi All,
well, after a few false starts i did the dirty and ordered the GTI yesterday. OK, I'm not going to put a Roo Bar on it but I need a good bluetooth system and I know a lot of people have had trouble with different ones. This one looks good and I was wondering if anyone has installed it. http://www.ryda.com.au/MetaBlue-Blue...blue%20vwg.htm Or failing that, can you recommend one that does work? |

I thought I would jump in before maverick beats me to it.
I bought the OEM bluetooth from vrstu in the UK and installed it myself. You need a VCDS to do some code changes but once done you get full functionality of the bluetooth unit including integration with the steering wheel controls. See this thread for details http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showth...t=38337&page=2 |

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
![]() If you want decent bluetooth the only way to go is the fully integrated skoda/vw kit. If you search this forum you'll find plenty of info and photos of the kit.

If you bought a Garmin Nuvi 760 (or waited for the yet to be released in Australia Nuvi 765), you would get BlueTooth, good navigation support, good maps (if you buy a Garmin sat nav now, you will get Sensis v9 maps or a free upgrade to them), speed zones and red light cameras as POIs, etc. And you can move it from vehicle to vehicle. Only bummer is that the Garmin has an internal lithium ion battery which is destined to die in 4 years. Cheers V

Thanks ScooterVW. I'd definately get the European OEM kit if I could without too much hassle. How much did the kit cost you, if you don't mind me asking?
I know the site that you pointed me to says that it is a self install but is that really feasible for a novice (apart from the VAG-COM). The instructions seem detailed enough. |

The OP was asking about integrated car kits and not all in one GPS/bluetooth/DIVX/phonebook/game and coffee machines!

I paid a fraction under AU$600 for it delivered but that will vary slightly depending on the exchange rate.
Installation was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be, the main point is to take your time and don't force anything. I bought a pack of five trim tools from the US and a Torx driver from Bunnings and apart from a few cable ties, connectors, etc that was all I needed. If I can install it without breaking anything, anyone can. The instructions I followed are here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3488355 and http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ead.php?t=7058 and of course the master . . . http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showth...ight=bluetooth |
