Sunroof does not close

So I go to close my sunroof on my '08 GTI and it goes half way stops and then reverts back to the open position. I have tried numerous times to close it, yet it does the same as stated above. It seems as though the pinch sensor is detecting something blocking it, but I do not see anything obstructing the area.

Is there a way to manually override the sunroof operation to force it to close?

dealer time! lol

I've never seen so many new cars come back to the dealers so often, our VW really are not well made, details are forgotten all the time!

my mom drives an 02 mustang gt, never had a problem, my dad's new IS-F nothing, but our 2 older cars, A8L '06 and Q7 '07 had so many problems!!!

my sister's '07 civic, 60 000km and not a single thing!
why do the germans have so many problems building cars? they really can't keep up with the japs!

the VW roofs in the 90s are notorious for leaking!

^^^ no I'm just really tired of my vw breaking for no reason

I hit bumps and when I roll down my window at the same time it sorta looks choppy lol its kinda ghey, tired of germans making cars that are cool and go fast but then shit like the sunroof thing happen, it just doesnt make sense, its like they only test a few cars but let them all out without testing all of them, I love my GTI but I somewhat do regret buying it and modding it, should have bought a mazdaspeed6... but thats just how I feel about it...

Turn the dial to the closed position. Let the roof move and go back to where it was. Push up on the front part of the dial, closest to the windshield. It's a button, and will reset the roof.

Worked for me a few months back, good luck.

Hmm, I'll have to look for that tomorrow morning.

I got the sunroof closed by doing it manually with a 4mm hex key. Good thing we had one at work. Hopefully it was something obstructing the path of the sunroof, because it seems to be working fine now. I'd hate to have that happen if it starts to rain and I don't have a 4mm hex key on me!

Maybe you have bad luck or don't treat them right. My last 6 VW's & Audi's have been near perfect.

OP...glad you got it worked out. I always keep some allen wrenches in the car for another reason, good to know they could help here too.

That happens with every mass produced product, period. Nothing mass produced will ever have 100% success rate.

Roca, don't be so narrow minded - problems with products ALWAYS bring more attention than not. If you want a Mazda, I invite you to check out any number of forums and I guarantee you will find just as many threads citing little glitches like this.

Btw - had my car 8 months without a single solitary problem (knock on wood)

I had this problem with the sunroof on my 09. It finally closed, but since then I have been afraid to open it for fear of it getting stuck open in the rain, which my area has had alot of recently. I will have to try that reset trick if it happens again.
