DIY Giving the vw symbol a shadow. pics

tools: t20 and t15 bit.
small screwdriver

unscrew the 2 hex screws with a t20 bit. there are two of them one on far left and on far right. Some GTIs have 4 of these. mine were t20 other people have t15 and t20



Remove the front grill piece.


Press clips inward and turn the center assembly a 1/4th turn counterclockwise.


TO Get The crome piece off you must use a small screw driver or similar tool to slightly open the two plasice peices holding the clips on the back of the symbol, there is like 8 of them.



SAnd with 400 grit sandpaper, be sure to scuff all inner surfaces and small spaces inside the symbol holder piece.




I used automotive paint, make sure it bonds to plastic.First coat.


Second coat


Letin the paint dry ! hah nfs carbon


Spray coat . Used spray paint, Krylon works well. I taped off all of the holes on the plastice piece so it would be easy to snap chrome symbol back in.


I let it dry for over 24 hours and put it all back together. ..

Though this works, it is a very good way to break one of the 3 clips on teh VW symbol.

Thats bad ass. I think i might do the same lol

Gotcha! Just going off what Ive heard on here.

i did that with my car...i did black badge and grey background...unfortunately...you don't know the difference whether it was black or grey:iono: ohhh well at least i know its different:thumbup:

yes it is! haha..one of mine was broken on the way out...but it stays in and its fine...no biggie, nothng noticeable:headbang:

oh well... i guess me doing it a few weeks ago wasn't an original idea either...


edit: at least mine's a gt grille.... i know nobody LOCAL has what i've got. and that's what's important. on the internet, everything is played out
