Thanx Steve,

Im on the fence... I was sold on the AVC9000... Im spewing that the aus reseller aint around anymore...

For me, its either 1 of the following 2.
Happiness trading model...
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/7-DVD-Player...ryZ67772QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
AVC9000 lookalike (most likely is it)
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/7-DVD-Lettor...hZ017QQcategoryZ21646QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem

I think for an extra $100 or so, I would rather buy from Aus, and get a bit better support, and 1 year wty...

Steve, add me to the list if you can get better pricing, however I will need mine shipped to Melb...

Daniel

***CLARIFICATION***

I am not organising a group buy (got stung on one of those on another forum)

I am attempting to organise a "best price - cash - pick up only" via a mate of mine who is flying to Sydney this Thursday night, and will be back in WA on Monday morning. (and believe me...it's not a HUGE saving, just the convenience that I might have the unit next week, without paying for freight)

Sorry...but if you wish to negotiate a cheap price, then you will have to contact Happiness Trading.

Guys...he cannot guarantee the height of the unit. Read his comments....

Also, they won't ship to Australia. Waste of time.

I think you will find they are all coming from the same few places and the mouldings would all be pretty much the same thing. I'm also guessing they will have a pretty rough tolerance, 6mm does seem a lot though. He's listed it as a Golf MkV compatible so should be fine. He also replied almost instantly and said no probs on shipping to Australia. Happiness didn't have any listed earlier but are back on again now. I see their ebay price is $170 more. Then postage differential.

Re-reading "Height May vary from 130-136mm due to the way it is measured."
I think this is down to the fact it does not have flat parallel surfaces. It has a slight curve top and bottom so this would account for the variance and whether you measure from the exact middle which would be the widest point, then toward the edge it would be slightly more narrow.

Problem solved (I hope!)

I just purchased one of these. Probably same as happiness version but over $100 cheaper. Will post on how it goes when I get it.

I just installed this same unit (Waywell 6010) and am fairly happy with it. I bought mine from Waywell directly. Just FYI they also seem to have 2 new? VW models out now http://www.szwaywell.com/products.asp?prodID=326 and http://www.szwaywell.com/products.asp?prodID=325.

Most things work as per previous reviews. There is a hiss/feedback though which is dissapointing but many of these cheaper units seem to suffer this problem. I switched back and forth from orginal unit to confirm. When car is moving and sound is up a bit you can't hear the hiss. Reducing treble helps a little.

I also installed IGO8 which is much better than the supplied Route 66.

Looks OEM (slightly darker than surrounds though), not perfect but overall happy with what I got for the money.

most of todays products are purely digital, even the amps within the unit should be digital, sometimes it helps to earth bond the unit direct to chassis of the car from the chassis of the unit, its a trick we use in music studios all the time when we get ground loop problems.

How did pricing compare buying direct? Mine was $630 plus postage, would have been about $100 less a month ago when the strength of the $ was up.

Was $465US delivered - which converted to $550AUD at the time.

I think I have stuffed up something because the unit doesn't switch off with the car. Its all plug and play back there so not sure how I managed to screw that up. Think I will get it all out again, ground it proerly as suggested and see if that fixes some things. Definately feedback in the speakers - if I turn the sound to 0 the speakers make a slight buzzing sound in line with the engine revs.

I guess I am the unlucky one. The WD6010 that I got from Waywell has problem with the CD/DVD player when I finish my installation. It won't play cd or dvd. The disc just kept spinning.

Before the cd player goes dead on me, I was able to test the unit. These are the issues that I noticed.

CD/DVD - Need bypass for CD display to work or a blue warning screen will appear. The player cannot play DVD.
AM/FM - AM does not work.
Sound - Slight hissing noise
Ipod - does not charge iPhone
Bluetooth - Easy pairing, good sound quality, no phone book.
Steering wheel control - only the volume and mute will work
Appearance - Blends well with the interior
Customer Service - So far it has been great. I will have to see how they deal with the cd/dvd player issue.

Overall I think it is a decent unit for the price. If all the other issues could be resolved, this is the unit to put in your VW.
