Spark Plug - Re-gapping

Guys,

Car in question, Golf V GTI. is there any benifit in re-gapping the OEM spark plugs to a smaller Gap? - 1mm smaller gap than OEM i think it was?

You have to be very careful. The platinum coating on the ground electrode will flake off when you try to re-gap the plugs. Better off just leaving them alone.

No benefit. Leave the spark plugs alone.

Why does everyone want to re-gap. I would suggest buying new plugs.. they arent that expensive. I just bought (4) NGK BKR7EIX at autozone for $27 total.

On the 1.8t they called for a .032 gap. Several of us that tracked cars found that the .028 gap gave a better throttle response in the bottom-end (especially with our bigger turbos we were running, the stock K03 guys loved it too). I'm not sure of our Iridium plugs having any platinum.

Here's a great tool I use when I do mine. From Jacobs Electronics:



Bends the side electrode perfectly perpendicular (90 degrees) over the center electrode:
