I'm told retrofit will be an option. Probably wont know labor cost until the job has been done. There maybe a slight increase in price also as a part :frown:

Sweet Jamie, $2490 for GTI is pretty good for retail... any hookups for forum members?
And do you know if the Aussie DVD maps are available yet?

The retrofit should be very easy for cars that have the sat nav option already. Non-sat nav cars aren't that much harder to fit if owners are happy to stick the GPS antenna under the dash board rather than fitting the OEM shark fin which would involve pulling half the car apart.

From what I've heard, s of last week there was one or two guys in VW parts (in australia) that were trialing the aussie software..
Cool, because I've already bid a couple of times on German eBay.
Don't want to have the system hooked up for too long with no access to nav - if I end up purchasing that way...

I"m down for a unit if they're retro-fittable without any problems and they work with my MFD :w00t:
It's pretty much easy as "take old out, put RNS 510 in."
Even us older models can do it, just won't get any info on the mid-line display.

For all of you interested in doing this, here's a great forum I found to help you learn more about it.

I would suggest being careful about importing units from overseas. Depending upon just where they get the mapping software from, I'd consider it quite likely that Australian maps won't work on an overseas model. That's certainly the case with most of the aftermarket options (Eclipse, Pioneer, etc).

Sound advice.:w00t:
That is why I am waiting for AU to introduce it.

thanks Jamie for the information. very much appreciated.

i'm thinking if i should spec this into my car or just buy it seperate and sell the MP3 CD player. if it's plug & play it doesn't seem too difficult to DIY...

group buy anyone????

cheers

No problem:thumbup:

As soon as this crazy end of the year stuff dies down I will check into it some more. I also would like Nav in the GT I will be buying so I'm very keen to work out the best deal also. If a group buy is possible and it works out a better deal for us all, I will definately organise something:headbang:

Cheers,
Jamie
