MKV steering wheel install

Help me out, guys.

I'm going from an MKV plain 'n simple steering wheel to a GTI (although non multifunction) steering wheel such as shown below and 'm not sure whether or not it's safe to DIY, mainly because of the airbag.

Is the airbag install an issue at all, could it turn out to be a faulty install, if not done by a real pro, or could a monkey do it and I should just chill?

Thanks.

i have the same question. I've removed plenty of steering wheels without airbags, but don't want to F-up my 1month old car.

Searching Google, I found a few airbag removal instructions for other cars, and looks like the airbag is normally retained by either bolts or some type of clip from the back of the steering wheel. Is that how our cars are?

Remove the battery -ve lead and leave it for 10 mins before you touch anything.

Turn the steering wheel to one side to reveal the airbag catch and then use a flat screw driver to lever over the catch. Rotate the steering wheel to the opposite catch and lever off.

Carefully lift the airbag out and unplug the airbag wire from the slip ring.

Using an M12 splined tool remove the retaining screw, when you undo it make sure to grip the wheel tightly and not undo it against the steering lock.

Lift off the steering wheel - Make sure not to rotate the slip ring.

Fitting is the reverse, remembering to add a pin dot to the screw to indicate that it has been removed - it has a life of 5 removals.

It'll just lifts off when the bolt is removed. No pullers needed.

Not really. Just treat it gently when you remove it.
