Post Official Central Texas MkV thread

I've seen several GTIs around town--all colors. Twice I've seen a UG GTI around my neighborhood. Are any of you on this forum?

Cheers,
Alex

Hi AbtSportline. I have family in Fredericksburg and sometimes make it down to through the Boerne/San Antonio area. It's been a while though.

Any other central Texas folks here?

Cheers,
Alex

Hi excal06.

Cool. I knew there would be several Austin area folks here. I'm sure there's a few more that have yet to see this thread.

Is there interest in having a get together in Austin?

Cheers,
Alex

I've got a UG GTI in Austin. It currently has a roof rack on it.

Hi Larry,

Roof rack...are you a cyclist too? I don't remember a roof rack on the UG GTI that I've seen in my neighborhood (NW Austin).

Cheers,
Alex

Hey Alex,

I work in N Austin and live in Pfluegerville area. I've had bronchitus the last 3 weeks so I haven't been biking much. (Biking in the rain is how I got bronchitus) Hope to get out soon.

Anyone done any mods to their car in Austin? An intake and a turbo gauge are high on my want list. A friend of mine has the 3.2 A3 and did the Vag-com thing. He had found someone locally with the software but doesn't have their email anymore.

Hey Larry,

Looks like we likely don't cross paths often. I live NW and work downtown.

I've been really bad about getting out on my road bike. I don't think I've actually ridden this year

As far as mods go, I've only had my GTI a month. The only thing I've done to it is get the windows tinted. I'm currently rolling without a front plate. I'm probably going to do one of the front plate mods so I can mount it without drilling holes in the front bumper.

I'm considering getting some new springs to drop it a little and maybe a rear sway bar. But thats going to have to wait as I've put a screw through a tire close to the side wall, so I've ordered a replacement tire.

Cheers,
Alex

Welcome to the boards EL PAALO,

I bought from Hewlett. Smoothest new car purchase I've ever had. I did my shopping via internet. Maund wanted too much for the same exact cars every time. AutoMax in Killeen handed me off to some young kid who could not return a phone call when he promised he would to save his life.

I dealt with Robin Branham at Hewlett. Tell him I sent you and said that he would take good care of you. Let us know how it goes whatever you end up doing.

Cheers,
Alex

Thanks. That was the next dealership I was going to check.
Went and test drove at Rod East in San Antonio a few days ago and dealt with Dado Rosic who was great, but a good salesman doesn't necessarily say what the dealership is like. They didn't have much stock either.

we buy all our VWs from Rod East, and specificly deal with Dado, he sold me 5 so far, and my uncle bought 4 from him, good person. Gotta wait till the end of the month is the key to buy a car when all the dealerships rush to hit their quotas i guess.

Must be good if you've bought that many cars from him.

So, driving home from work yesterday I saw two GTIs. I was heading North on MoPac and traffic was worse than usual. I'm crawling in the left lane and notice I'm catching up to a CW GTI in the right lane. It's sporting some Huffs and I notice that the front driver's side one has some circular scrapes from where it was probably scraped along a curb. The sight made me cringe. You know traffic is bad if you can spot scrapes on rims two lanes over.

Anyway, I fought my way further North through the traffic and came upon several cars and a cop car in the grassy center median. Among those was a Black Magic GTI. I didn't notice any damage, but I was not going to slow down and rubber neck either.

Hope all you Austinites and your GTIs are doing well. I was just glad to make it home unscathed. I wasn't feeling good karma (or should I say "car"-ma).

Cheers,
Alex

Hi scubad22,

A breakfast run some Sunday morning sounds like a great idea. I probably couldn't make this Sunday, but the next couple of Sundays are possibilities. Anyone else interested? I'd love to photograph a group of MkVs.

BTW scubad22, what do you do at Sub Sonic Audio & Security?

Cheers,
Alex
