Tail light tint (R32 look) DIY

Basically as the title says

Removed the tails todo this but I found it easier to mask the circles out while still on the car. I have applied the tint by adding 2 pack black to some laquer, just start with a little and work your way up to get to the level of darkness you desire. Also remember to give all 4 parts of the tail lights the same number of coats from the same mix ( laquer:2 pack) to keep the colour match the same. At the moment I have just applied the tint but once that is dry I will flatten with p1500 wet grey scotch brite and then apply clear coat over the full light this will remove the edge caused by the tape.

Tried it on but was still to light so had to start over and darken it Down. It's a hard one to get right but I think I've got it now

I used firstly plastic adhesion promoter then just standard 2pack lacquer and mixed it with 2 pack black. I was scared that I would add to much to soon but don't be scared when adding the black in u need a good few drops for it to darken the light atol. Also it Is a good idea to find an old tail light cover to practice on until u are happy with the tint level. I made the mistake just winged it and it was to light had to buff it all back off and start over.

Are you going to clear them so there is no paint edge or just lave as is?

Yeah. I'm going to flatten with p800 the coat the full light in clear coat. And hopefully this should eliminate the edge

I would always recommend using this method ur just asking for trouble leaving that edge, a jet wash would get under that and cause it to peal in no time. You want the full surface sealed .
