vacuum pump leak?

hey all, i am suffering from an oil leak. Originally thought it to be valve cover gasket, so i replaced it. The condition still exists, could this be due to a leaking vacuum pump gasket?

thanks!

This gasket won't fix the problem. I think the only solution is to change the full vacuum pump... i have the same problem.

Did this fix your problem or did you have to replace the entire vacuum pump? Mine doesn't seem to be leaking around the outer cover of the pump but more "inside" where it attaches to the engine.

My wife's MK5 GLI had the same leak. I thought the engine burned the oil and would have very little by the time I did the oil change. I then noticed the leak on the side like your pic but it was worst. I decided to replace the entire vacuum pump. No more leak. Oil level has been good so far.

I replaced mine with the newer revision pump, the one with the o-ring near the base. It is still leaking though. Is there a trick to seating the o-ring properly? Will the o-ring swell over time and stop the leak?

For me I think it's not leaking out of the pump but the timing chain housing, however one could easily think it's the pump bottom by the way it looks. This is my next thing to try once summer ends.

It could possibly be the gasket by the cam chain cover too (the big aluminum piece that the HPFP bolts into). That's where mine developed a leak years ago.

With that said, the vacuum pump is another source of potential leaking.

newer revision changes the location of the O ring. thus eliminating the typical oil leak that will return if using the older version...
