Middle East Cam Follower and Cam Shaft Issue - VW GTI Forum / VW Rabbit Forum / VW R32 Forum / VW Golf Forum

Hi all!
Have any of you MkV GTI had cam shaft/cam follower/fuel pump issues?
I started hearing a whine in my engine (2007 Golf GTI Canadian Spec), and the dealer says it's the camshaft that needs changing, along with the High Pressure Fuel Pump.
It's going to cost 1500$-2000$ to fix! In North America, where I got my car when I lived there, this gets changed for free as I have a Rev A Cam Follower (this part # was later changed by VW but they did not do a recall).
Did anyone get any feedback from their VW? Did VW cover the cost?
