6k Mi UOA - Motul X-Cess 8100 5w-40

EDIT: A second UOA has been added.

I had a chance to send out a UOA that I had sitting around from the winter. I'll have another with the same oil when I have a chance to get it sent in. They spotted high fuel dilution, which I'm guessing is just there because the sample was taken during a time when we were at 10-20F for a few weeks. Not bad wear numbers in spite of it though.

was the oil change done after a drive long enough to cook some of the fuel vapors out?
No, it was the dead of winter. I didn't go too far. Just enough to get the temp gauge up to NOT for 5 minutes or so each way back and forth from work at that time mostly. I had a DP and no software at that point too. I have appropriate software for my DP now, so that may help. The next UOA will be on 5k miles, with stage II, between late January and Now. After that is Redline (which I'm running now).

Provided the Redline looks good, I'll likely stick with it for the long term. I'm switching from the Motul because I heard that the line is going to be discontinued. I'm hoping the oil consumption with the Reline will be as low as it has been on the Motul. I consumed ~1.5qt per 5k miles with the Castrol swill that the dealer installed when I bought it (used w/31k miles) and only .5qt/5k with the X-Cess.

Seeing the Motul sheared down to less than a 30w in 6k miles isn't too encouraging :(.

syntec 5w-40 is not as good as syntec 0w-30, which is almost as thick as the 40 weight when hot.

not burning any oil at all with my pennzoil euro plat right now, but do have some LM mos2 added in, still undecided about the mos2's effect, but it seems to be positive.
Not sure I know anything about any zero oil consumption, but I've owned a lot of VWs. I'm not sure what they're doing with it, or if they're really ending the line. It was rumored as the reason for the big discount when the price dropped a lot some 6-10 months ago as far as I recall.

Yeah, GC is a very robust oil. The wear numbers for it (as far as I can see on UOAs on this engine) seem pretty close to the numbers I got with the X-Cess. Iirc, its a heck of a lot cheaper too. Is it still widely available? I thought I read about the Castrol 0w30 being replaced with an inferior oil a year or two ago. People were hoarding it and whatnot.

afaik, the 0W-30 being sold under the new name is the same as what was previously referred to as german castrol
That could be it. Is it not green anymore?

I added another UOA to the OP. Seems like the Motul had another good run. Next sample will be Redline.

Weird. I can't see any of anyone else's posts in this thread.
