I haven't seen a pictorial of the TSI oil change yet, so here it is. Please add to this if I missed something.
First - THIS IS THE EASIEST AND CLEANEST OIL CHANGE EVER!!!
Second - You don't need any stupid drain tools like on the FSI!!
Third - Go to the dealer to buy the filter!
Fourth - This is for reference only. I'm not liable for anything you screw up on your car, even if I screwed it up on mine first or gave you some bad information below...
Tools:
19 mm socket
76/14 oil filter wrench
3-4" socket extension for the oil filter wrench
5 quarts of 5W-40 full synthetic oil
Oil Filter
Steps:
1. Get the car up on ramps or a jack *with stands*. Chock the wheels, set the parking brake. Make sure the car isn't going to roll or fall on your head.
2. You don't need to take off the plastic undercover like on the FSI.
3. Remove the oil plug - 19mm socket - drain the oil into an oil pan.
4. Remove the oil cap on the engine to allow the oil to drain faster.
5. Remove the oil filter with a 76/14 oil filter wrench. The first time I did this the filter stripped because someone had put the previous filter on too tight. A universal 3-pronged adjustable filter wrench allowed me to get it off.
6. Drain the old filter in your oil catch pan. Not much will likely come out, the top-mount design allows it to drain pretty well in the engine.
7. Prepare the new filter - Make sure all of the seals are in place. Put a light coating of new oil on the seals and the threads.
8. Carefully wipe the oil filter sealing face on the engine clean. Use a very clean cloth. Don't get dust or dirt into the engine.
9. Carefully screw the new oil filter into the engine. It should thread in very smoothly by hand until it bottoms out. Use the oil filter wrench to gently snug it - don't over tighten it.
10. Replace the oil drain plug. Tighten gently - don't overtighten!
11. Put new oil back into the engine. My engine uses just above 4.5 quarts to get it to the mid-point on the hi-low markings on the dipstick.
****VW has a very specific sequence of how much oil to put in, then start the car, add more oil etc. ***Please follow this sequence - I'm not going to add it here***
12. Once you've added the proper amount of oil, replace the oil cap, put the engine cover back on, clean up your very limited mess, get the car down, and you're done!
