i had full function of the sat nav and cd/radio accessible on steering wheel controls and visible on the dash. for some reason that's all disappeared. still have full function of fuel consumption etc and adjustability of things such as language, light timers.
have tried putting it back to factory mode, and had derek look at it with vag com. still no joy.
have tried resetting RNS by pressing the eject and both arrow buttons at the same time. and still nothing!
has anyone else had this problem or know of a solution?:mad0259:

Yep - turned out to be the battery. Replaced it and it came back as expected.

My unit stopped turning on with the car, and didnt have any functionality on the steering wheel or cluster.

on the MFD display, next to the tacho, the stereo and sat nav is no longer displayed, and along with that, there is no longer the ability to use the steering wheel buttons to bring up that display.
the fuel consumption etc, is still displayed on the MFD screen.

Sorry to thread hijack - but would it be a problem to run of those solar panel trickle chargers on your car? I've just noticed the battery not being as forceful as usual?

Buy a new battery, a solar charger will just prolong it's death by a very short period and is tacky IMO.

If your battery dies when the car is locked you have a few choices, smash the drivers side window and pop the hood or flatbed it to a dealer (~$250) and get them to open the hood from underneath. Either of these options if going to cost you a heap more than a new battery.

Okay, two points - when I got the battery replaced in my Turbo Beetle, it cost me $200 for the battery, and the battery would have to be incredibly dead for it not to open the doors...

BTW, if you're paying $250 for a flat bed, you're getting ripped - the last one here cost me $100.

Last time I looked the Turbo Beetle shares no door hardware with the Mark V/VI and nor does it have a similar CAN bus system. Nor does it have anywhere near the same electrical load and has a smaller battery.

The battery doesn't have to be incredibly dead to not open the doors either.

Good for you but take a look at the prices others have paid for tows to the dealer out of warranty and for reasons not warranty related like locking the keys.

Anyhow good luck with your solar panel

So there wouldn't be a problem running a trickle charger/solar panel?!?
