Golf storage tray (below rear compartment parcel shelf)

I believe I have seen this VW accessory called a transboard too.
Looked useful, but at aprox $180 was too much of a risk for something I was not sure I would like it.

Now, ECS has the Golf / Rabbit Storage Tray on close-out for $28 + shipping,
so I could not resist, as the risk is so small.
Also popped for two of the reduced to $5 VW/Audio warning triangles too.

The added storage tray sits below the standard rear parcel shelf, no tools required, no modifications needed


Everything you see in the tray is not included, I acquired the VW first aid kit and VW warning triangle separately.

It is only rated to hold maximum of 4 kg (≈9 lbs)

paper towel, window cleaner, spare quart of oil, couple of bungee cords, tire pressure gauge

BTW it is pretty shaded in that area, here is a natural light shot to provide a better idea how dim it is in there :wink:


I am not so sure I like the reduced access to the rear compartment,
but will give it a while and see how it goes.

This leather pouch just happened to be a perfect fit for one of the bins.
I occasionally travel for work, which typically includes driving a rental car.
I have been keeping this kit ready to go for when I hit the road,
it fits in an outer pocket of my travel bag.
I slip it in there when I load up to head to the airport.
The pouch has velcro on the bottom, it used to live on top of the parcel shelf
behind a headrest, but I like it much better out of sight.

I saw it and was thinking of getting it too... I ordered the triangle, wonder where to put it... now I know... there is a spot for it.... the only reason makes me not to get it is that it reduce the opening as you said.... holds only 9 lbs? hmmmm....

there is also a spot under the load floor in the styrofoam inserts where it fits ok too.
Not a snug fit like the tray, but nice enough.

Damn, I must say this is a great thread. Lots of pics, good write up and you seemed to be prepared for everything with those kits. I got one of these too, but havent loaded it up nicely like yours. I wish my trunk looked as clean and functional as yours.

great write up! I saw this 2 weeks ago and really wanted to get into it. While I think your doing the right thing, I don't know if I could dedicate all that space to stuff that would benefit me in a breakdown. I think it would be better filled with chips and snacks, some sodas and magazines ahha.

Very nice. Great write up. I just recently picked up the shelf too, along with the car bra which was discontinued. Wish VW notified owners when items like these were being phased out or on sale. Imagine paying full price for this stuff! Probably gonna grab a cargo net too in the comin weeks. Dealer pricing should be similar to the sale at ecs...but not always.

Ordered one and love it too... got a led work lamp, spare clothes, and ping pong paddles =D.

I ordered it as well... way too cheap to pass up! I also found a interlagos scarf for $5! mass stuff to tempt you for $5 on ecs right now...

I picked this up w/ the golfball shift knob. Was too good a deal to pass up.

Bought one from dbc, $24 shipped. Fits great and doesn't rattle so bad, only when u hit a bigger bump.
