I grew tired of getting looks from cops/sheriffs cause of the whole no front plate(cause in NY its a law to have a front & rear plate:thumbdown
so i decided to go with this method. I originally had a Show-n-Go plate holder but once I lowered the car i couldn't go anywhere without scraping that thing, so in fear of ripping off my votex lip heres my holeless license plate DIY.
Supplys:
12 rare earth magnets.(I ordered 20 and only used 12)
1" X 1/8" N50 rating(N50= Holds 17.75 pounds per magnet)
1 tube of epoxy
1 OEM license plate holder
and of course plasti-dip.
WARNING:be careful with N50 magnets, there extremley strong and when they are close enough to other magnet's(or magnetic thing's) they will attract to them and they break fairly easily
1.Begin by applying your epoxy to your plate holder then quickly apply magnets(I put one on each corner where the plate would normally be held on to the grill by, as well as 3 stacked up in the middle to make them flush.)
2. once all your magnets are in place use extra magnets and just let them hold the glued magnets in place through the plate holder.(you like that cracked magnet?)
3. Let the magnets all sit roughly for 20min-1 hour
4. When the epoxy is all dried on the plate holder remove the plates on the reverse side that were there too hold glued magnets in place.
5. Apply plate holder with magnets to your grill, Stick magnets to the other side so you know where you want your plate to be.
6. Apply magnets temporarily and outline them with a sharpie so you know where to apply epoxy(dont ask "whats that brown stuff on the back of your grill?" it was stuff i used to seal up the original plate holes
)
7. remove magnets apply epoxy and stick magnets. use plate holder to hold down magnets while they dry in place(let dry for 20min-1hour)
8. once done remove plate holder and keep it a good distance from the grill(so they dont snap back towards each other and crack anything)
NEXT STEP IS OPTIONAL BUT I WOULD RECOMMENDED IT
The reason i plasti-dipped it is because i wanted it to match my grill and also did not want the magnets to hurt the plasti-dip on the grill too much.
9. Grab your plasti-dip and get ready to spray your plate holder.
10. Apply 2-4 coats of plasti-dip to the entire(or at least the back side) of the plate holder. Let dry in between coats
11. Once done it should look something like this
To be super sure I let everything (grill & plate holder) sit overnight.
Perfect Match:thumbsup:
12. Reapply your grill and Gently apply your license plate holder w/ state license plate(be carefully the screw you use for your plate don't poke through too far.)
Now you can put ur car on to drive around the cops/sherrifs, and take it off for photos and shows! Magnets feel really strong once all is said and done. doubt the plates going anywhere! The only thing that might be needed is to redo your plasti-dipped grill once or twice a year(depending on how much you remove the plate)
Hope this helped everyone thanks!:headbang:

EDIT: 30 min drive too work and the plate didn't move at all, had to love the look of everyones face in the parking lot as I took off and reapplied my plate tho!
