Modifying steering response with Vag-Com

For cars made earlier than 2007, we can alter the steering response with Vag-Com. Unfortunately the option is no more available on newer cars. I discovered this while searching for a way to improve the steering of a friend on mine with Octavia RS that had the same coilovers as me but a much vaguer and artificial steering than mine. Unfortunately it didn't work for him as his car is a 2008 model but it worked for me. The steering response can be set between 0 and 10, 10 being the least responsive and 0 the best. Most comments found by me on the internet said the default setting was 8 but on my car it was 5. I lowered it from 5 to 2 and I couldn't believe the change. My steering was already very nice but now it's a dream ! The procedure :

VAG-COM > SELECT > 44 - Steering Assist (Drivetrain) > Adaptation - 10 > Channel 001

So will it work on my '06? How did it work on your car if it's "for cars made earlier than 2006"?

I meant 2007 (edited the post). My car is MY2006 ! It should work on your car either !

iirc all this does is change the steering assist...it does nothing to actually change steering ratio or "sharpen" steering. it seems all you did was lower the steering assist so now it "feels" more direct to you...a nice change nonetheless

Yes, it's the steering assist, not the steering ratio but this means a faster responding steering and a very kart-like feeling !

When in 2007 did this change or is it all 2007. Mine was a march GT built in 2007.

Tried this on my '06 yesterday and honestly can't tell any difference. It was on "5" which said something about "Sport" but all the others are labeled Normal 1, Normal 2, etc (I have 0-6 for available settings).

Did I miss something or is the change just really subtle?

Same here.
I left it at 0, and it felt a bit heavier for the first day and then it either went back to factory settings or i got used to it.
checked with vagcom again and it still says 0 :frown:

Some people say that you get the same effect by disconecting the car battery and it lasts a few minutes, so my guess is that this was the same when I cleared my codes.

BTW my car is 07 but build date is from around Nov 06
