Anyone have a Cobra XRS 9740 Radar Detector?

So I just bought a Cobra XRS 9740 for the GTI, and Im not sure if Im just not getting it or what. The directions are really confusing, and it doesnt seem to work like I want it to at all.
Anyone care to tell me how theirs works for them?

I doubt it, I dont see the cities I live in doing much "upgrading" lately but I'll keep an ear out for it.
This seems like a great machine, I just need to figure out how to use it.

i just got the cobra xrs r7 and it seems pretty intuitive what exactly are you having any issue with? i did have to go in a enable a bunch of the bands but I assume that was over kill for the city driving.

Actually, it really doesnt go off that much in the city. I just need to learn what each one is, like Ka, Ku, X, and POP. Thats all that really shoes up. It doesnt seem to pick up signal from far away, like the other day I was on the freeway and there was a firetruck with its lights on, on the opposite side of the freeway, my detector didnt tell me "Emergency vehicle approaching" until he was about 100 feet away almost dead in front of me. I thought the range was a lot broader on those.:iono:

This might sound harsh but you might as well have a brick or a pile of s**t on your dashboard. Cobra's are very bad radar detectors.

The SWS (Safety Warning System) is what would notify you of an "Emergency Vehicle Approaching", "Crash Ahead", "Construction" etc. Even on a high end detector, getting a SWS alert is very very rare. Over the 4 years of owning different detectors, I have never received one and I have never heard of anyone getting one.

So, I suggest looking at these companies as they are the only I would trust:

hey man, i have the cobra xrs9, to tell the truth, its good. trust me. i came off a v1 and i thing the cobra the new one, is worth the money. some false alarms, but once you know your detector than u can know if its real or fake alarms, i know some parts of y city where i get false alarms, so i mark them on my gps in the cobra. and i get all the red light camara spots too.

over all awesome for the price!!!!!!!!

It's the best unit there is. Good choice! I have had mine for probably 7 years. worth every penny.

Highway patrol has got em... Even my V1 doesnt pick it up :frown:

He was pointing it straight at me from under an overpass as i was coming down 280 into san jose and not a single damn beep, bloop or chirp...
