I just bought a timing belt kit from ecs tuning. If you go to their website and look up gti mkv timing belt kit they have a super detailed pdf with photos and illustrations outlining the whole process.

My cam ended up back a tooth and the crank is forward a tooth. Can someone help me with what I should do? I didn't see either of them move, I think it was off before I took the belt off. Do I move them both back to tdc and what do I move first?

You have the belt off again? Of not loosen the tensioner nut and take belt back off and realign. Is it spinning on you? I used the cam lock plate when I did mine.

The belt is off. I tried to turn the cam but it kinda sprung back in place..

Yeah it'll do that. Is the crank still aligned with the marks?

The crank is advanced about a tooth and the cam is back a tooth. I don't THINK either of them moved because difficult to turn by hand as is. What do you think put the belt on as is or move them?

You can rotate the crank to where it needs to be with the socket and Rachet.

Rotate the head and see if you can lock that in place

The cam is at tdc now tho. Is it safe to rotate the crank back a few teeth now?

Edit: got it all lined up tdc. Rotated a few times and still lines up. Gonna finish buttoning it up, say 5 hail marys and start it up. Thanks again.
