I don't think anyone offers a "chip" for the mk5 ECU's.

There are additional boxes that connect between the ECU and other sensors

Don’t the 2008.5+ have “chips” since they are the TSI?

No need to install a physical chip on this car. Tuners have broken encryption on this years ago and can change the tuning parameters in software and just upload the changes.

Back in the old days the only way to get a more aggressive tune in was to write it on a chip and literally solder it in to the board.

It is essentially two ways (one physical, one digital) to accomplish the same thing. All of the stage 1 tunes from majors like GIAC, APR, Uni will provide big results for the money.
