Goes in the seat rail, when you push the seat forward it stops the seat to the preset when pushing it back to normal

Did you ever find one of these?

I was replacing the heater blower / fan and decided it would be easier if I pulled the passenger seat.

It was easier to lay on the floor on my back to access the fan, but while the seat was out of the car,
the same part fell out of my seat.

Thanks for identifying it as the (2 door only) seat back released rake return memory stop.
I have studied the Bentley shop manual and I can not find it in there.
So I have the part sitting on my desk staring at me.
As you note, it goes in the seat rail somewhere.

Where the heck does this darn thing go in the rail? Which side (inboard or outboard)?

Saw mine on the outer side. You should be able to slide the seat forward and just put it in the rail. When you slide the seat back it will reset and should work again.

Do you know the vw part number?

Could not figure that out and then I tripped across this in HOW TO: Perform your airbag TSB on vwvortex.

Bolt your seat back in. NOTE this metal piece. It can slide out of your rail sometimes.
It cannot go in after the bolt is in place.
It slides under that channel, and can't get started with the bolt there.
You might not even see this part come out of your rail.
But if you do, you know where it goes.

I hate to thread jack, but how was this job? It seems like you just turn the fan module and pull it out but I know it sometimes doesn't work out so simple.

The heater fan in my gf's Jetta is making some sad noises so I think I'm in for this job soon.

edit: Also, I dunno if that is after cleaning but I guarantee you if I pulled either front seat in my car it wouldn't look anywhere near that clean lol.
