I haven't raced him yet, I probably won't now untill I take my winter wheels/tires off in march/april.
Now i'm pretty confident I will dust him

yeah i laughed my ass off when the gen coupe came out and they claimed it was a "mustang killer" then the 6 tested at a 14.5 quarter. guess them koreans just love to make overly optamistic claims. everything i've read on the turbo was up in the 15s. then take into account that the tests are done by profesional drivers and it just looks even worse.

Hyundai are actually built pretty solid now.. I work at a Hyundai/Volkswagen dealership and I see waaaaaay more broken Volkswagens than I do Hyundais..

The turbo ones are a joke unless you go BT. They dyno stock around 180whp. The V6's dyno closer to 270whp.

This is an exceprt from Inside Line ( Edmunds) review of the Genesis. This was actually one of the biggest deciding factors ( aside from my own test drive) that made me move away from the Genesis.
Breathless Power The news isn't as good when it comes to the performance of the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T's turbocharged 1,998cc inline-4. With engine architecture developed by Hyundai and adopted by Mitsubishi and then Chrysler as a part of the cooperative program known as GEMA (Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance), the Hyundai Lambda engine has more in common with the power plant in the Dodge Caliber than the one in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. The pistons, connecting rods and crankshaft are cast rather than forged, and the intake ports are relatively constricted. Despite its humble specification, what Hyundai describes as a "low-pressure turbo engine" actually is up to 8.7 psi of boost with spikes of 17.5 psi to maximize torque at low rpm, plus it's equipped with an air-to-air intercooler to maximize efficiency, and variable valve timing on the intake and exhaust cams. As our own dynamometer runs with the 2.0T reveal, however, all this goes to building up the bottom of the power curve, so this engine has given its best long before the 6,500-rpm redline is reached. It is rated at 210 hp at 6,000 rpm and 223 pound-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm. At the test track, this translates into a run to 60 mph from a standstill in 6.9 seconds (6.6 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip). The quarter-mile comes up in 15.0 seconds at 91.8 mph and top speed is electronically limited to 137 mph. Thanks to shorter gear ratios in its six-speed transmission and a shorter final-drive ratio, the 2.0T is only a half second slower than the 3.8 V6 to both 60 mph and the quarter-mile, which is a feat of some accomplishment. The other half of the performance equation is this car's excellent fuel economy, as it's EPA rated at 21 mpg city (estimated) and 30 mpg highway (estimated).

For a first effort for the new powerplant/platform its an amazing car.
Just wait 10 years and if its still around in its current RWD format I am sure it will be steller. Just look at the Sonata and its climb over the same period. Also it does not surprise me that its a lower boost lower power car... lets not forget Hyudai is standing behind these for 10 years/100,000 miles. I am sure they were being conservative with their first turbo. Quote:

Say "One Mississippi" out loud. In a quarter mile the cars quoted above the difference is "One Miss"... in other words its a drivers race. I think we get all lulled by the rush of the turbo that our cars are faster then they really are. Neither is "slow as sh^%". |

I really do think at the end of the day it will come down to who gets the traction off the line.
.5 of a second is the difference between a bit of wheel spin at launch and a little more.

as a tech at hyundai i can say that the new hyundai's are solid....... hardly any huge problems. but i see no reason y a stage 1 GTI shouldn't nudge on a Gen Coupe, but i can vouge that a stage 2 will walk on one...... i have a stage 2+ and work on the gens all day long, and i will put cash on it that the stage 2 will walk it.
