believe chains will damage your abs speed sensors and void warranty on related parts, at least that's what a VW Master tech once told me when I asked

they are required by law in CA. Hopefully I can skim by w/o them as I think they cause more harm than good.

I was just going to get the cable kind anyway. But I'll have to investigate more about the sensors and shit.

yeah you can safely use stage 2, but i've been stuck in parking lots and stock got me right out.

and a whole lot less of spinning 6th gear on the highway at 60 mph. that is kind of scary.

get some 'vredestein' tires. i think they're swedish and just killer in the snow!
i used to have the 2+2's on my SAAB and that thing was unbelievable in snow!
highly recommend these tires. they're like magnets.

Still researching chains/cables/whatever for the GTI. Thus far I'm looking at these uber fucking expensive outside of the wheel only chains.

I guess Thule and one other company makes them. Not really impressed by the 400 dollar price tag. However, I'm thinking they will have the best chance of not coming in contact with brake lines.
